When Life Feels Like the Longest Day of Summer

But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day!” (Habakkuk 2:3 TLB).

{UPDATE: I wrote this post a few weeks ago when I was sick (and tired of being sick). My shoulder is on the mend and I’m breathing much easier. I finish physical therapy this week and am at about 80%. I will continue to do my homework and finish the healing process. I feel as if we haven’t talked in too long. Every time I would try to peck away at my keyboard that shoulder of mine would fuss. This has also delayed the start of our coaching group on Facebook. Delayed in my time. God is not delayed. I’m sure He is getting me back on His timing. Thank goodness because I can be known to run ahead of Him. I so wish the pic below was of my painted door (the one I took on paint day has been deleted – even from the cloud). But, it now needs to be painted (again) because we have been remodeling and it needs a fresh coat. Wait, didn’t I just mention I can run ahead?}

I sit here watching paint dry. No really. I’m watching paint dry. My painter brother put a fresh coat on the front door and I don’t want to mess it up. And, I’m not sure what kind of varmint may wander in at the invitation of an open door.

I will tear up some stuff trying to run from a lizard. So, I’m at my post guarding against marauding invaders – geckos, lizards, spiders, and stray dogs. I have anointed the threshold with peppermint essential oil (I read somewhere that lizards don’t like peppermint). Here you find me, sitting and thinking. What else can I do? I must keep my eyes on that door.

Why does much of our life feel as if it is rushing past us at breakneck speed (spring and fall) until we need or want it to move fast and then we enter that season of the dog days of summer. Geez. Is there some kind of law involved here that I have forgotten?

God’s timing can seem so sloooooow. He also can seem very quiet in the waiting, can’t He? We pray, we search the Bible, we listen to every podcast we can find, we read books, we download a new playlist, we lay awake at night, and we wait.

Plans keep getting delayed. I’m struggling with itises around here, bronchitis, tendonitis, bursitis. I happened to mention to the Lord that if He wanted me to delay some plans, wasn’t there a less painful way to bring that about?

In the spirit of transparency, you should know that I have had me a few serious discussions with God. One in particular recently could be characterized as a tantrum. Once that kind of talk gets started, everything pours out. All the things we have locked down behind the church girl smile comes flying. When the tears stopped flowing and my nose had a good blowing, I thanked Him for all He had done for me. I sure thanked Him for His patience with His girl as I got some stuff out of my heart and into His hands so peace could come.

What we gonna do when our lives are like wet paint on a humid Louisiana day? We wait

I’m looking at this door hoping its dry. If I shut it too soon, the finish will be marred. It will still be painted, but the smoothness of a fresh coat of paint will have a reminder of my impatience. A reminder of how it could have been if  I had waited.

Scripture Affirmation: I walk by faith, not by what I see or feel. Because I understand that God has perfect timing, I rest in peace as I wait on His next move for me. I am His sheep, therefore I will know His voice when He says go this way. (2 Corinthians 5:7; Galatians 6:9; John 10:14; Isaiah 30:21)

Affirmations help us remember the truth of scripture when our enemy floods our hearts with lies.
