Relax in God’s Timing
Remember when we were kids and we couldn’t wait until school summer vacation? By July, we mourned it was almost over. July is upon us. I saw a Facebook meme recently informing FB world how many days until Christmas. Is it just me, or does it feel like we just hauled all that Christmas conglomeration to storage?
I had some stuff I wanted to get done before my birthday, and now that my birthday has come and gone, some stuff didn’t get done. I had a timeline and weekly/monthly goals. They drifted past me, like the papers I dropped in the parking lot. The closer I got to them, the wind carried them further away. If. I. Can. Just. Get. My. Foot. On. Those. Papers. The “Dance of the Wind Swept Papers.”
Psalm 37:23 tells us:
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.
Doesn’t He realize that I have a beautiful planner with lots of stuff written in it? Plans, goals, to-dos, and notes are neatly recorded with some of my prettiest handwriting. Are you doing the “Dance of the Wind Swept Papers,” too? If we can just put our foot on those goals and get a firm grip on them, we could get going. Our year is half over, and we have stuff to do.
Sometimes life just happens. Our plans don’t follow the bullet points on the list. When that happens, we trust in the Lord’s preparation. Our perspective changes from anxiety to anticipation. We understand that the delays are a part of the Master plan. We look forward to our next door opening.
If we have done our part, we wait for God to do His. In our waiting, we remain faithful where we are. We seek Christ with all our hearts. We read our Bible, we pray, we show ourselves friendly, we love each other, we learn a new skill, and we be the best we can be—where we are.
Do you want some good news for your day? God is into details. We can rest in His love.
I love you! I’m chasing down a few papers of my own! But thank you for reminding me that I must remain faithful where I am. YES! And sometimes that means taking care of the most precious blessings/responsibilities in my life. Even if they aren’t on that goal sheet! Even when their needs distract me from those orderly timelines! Thanks for this dose of encouragement today! xo
Love my Liz! Girl, those precious blessings of yours are definitely your most important assignment. They are blessed to have a momma that understands that.
Heehee. I love this Carmen! I too have a planner. The old-fashioned, write-on-it kind, not the techie kind! I absolutely hate it when I have to go back to my planner and erase something because it passed by and I didn’t get the task completed. But there is freedom in those wind-swept papers, right? Thanks for the breath of fresh air today. Now I think I’ll go rest in God’s goodness and savor the day. God’s timing is perfect. Thanks friend:)
I try to use an electronic version, but I just keep going back to the beautiful one sitting on my desk. Of course, I’m girl that can get giddy in Office Depot :)
Thanks for stopping by, Kristine!
Beautiful post! Such encouragement! You know what happened with that beautiful goal sheet I presented at His Girls Gather in February??? I lost it. No Joke. During our trip to Turkey, it got lost. And have I had time to sit down and seek God again for goals for the next six months? No. but in His timing, I will. Thanks, friend.
Great job with hope coaching.
Oh no, Betsy! That was such a great visual for us all. You are such a planner, I have faith it will be replaced soon. Love you, friend!
Well, you have written a message that fits right in with what God is trying to teach me! More affirmation–WAIT UPON GOD and rest in His timing. He has all the details worked out and I just need to follow His steps one at a time as He leads.
I have found myself frustrated by so much on my to-do list and so little time to get everything one. Distractions and demands seem like obstacles to doing what God wants me to do. But in reality, they’re a part of His plan. I just need to stay focused on Him so I see from His perspective. Then everything falls into place.
Thanks, Carmen. Your words are always an encouragement to me.
Dear Sabra, you have described some of my very same struggles! Oh my goodness, it’s so hard to really believe that our delays are in God’s timing. Thank you for stopping by to encourage me, friend.
