Is Your Journey Taking an Unfamiliar Path?

“Your word is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path.” Psalm 119:105, NET

Anytime we begin to see the need to let a dream drift away, we grieve. Our journey began with a shiny travel brochure vision. We made a plan, maybe even set an arrival date, and then jumped on board. We paddled along, waves rocked us, and we paddled harder and faster. We told ourselves that these are the storms of life.

The storms of life do come and often standing firm is what we need to do. But, sometimes, just sometimes, the storms come to displace us.

As the eyes of our heart become wide awake to this knowledge, we look longingly at what we thought was our path. We stand on the grassy, rocky ground and wonder why we don’t get to finish the journey in the predictable way.

If we allow it, the tears over this realization will water the new ground. If we are willing, we can look excitedly at the road before us.

Life is filled with trails that intersect one another. Remember,

There is more than one way to get to where we are supposed to be.

Our Journey Takes Many Paths

Dear God, shine the light on the path we are to walk. Illuminate our way. Lovingly divert us when we take a turn that is not the best route. We put our trust in You.

  1. Carmen – such a great post and poetic in nature – you have a way with words and painting mental pictures. So glad I got to be your neighbor at #RaRaLinkup this week – sorry it has taken me a few days to visit. Blessings and thank you for the reminder that there is more than one way to get to where we need to be – Trusting and letting God light my path

  2. Friend, I am right with you and your words. Wondering why I haven’t been able to finish the journey in the predictable way. Trusting, trusting, trusting. Thank you, Carmen. Your words always encourage and uplift. Much love to you!

  3. “But, sometimes, just sometimes, the storms come to displace us.” I immediately said, “Wow!” Is that why that hurricane just blew through my life? ;-) Regardless, we’re anchored with trust. Good encouragement, Carmen.

  4. Carmen, this was simply beautiful. I’ve been down the road of seeing a dream not being fulfilled the way I had envisioned. But God in His faithfulness led me down a path that twisted and turned and eventually began fulfilling the dream, just not the way I thought. Isn’t it like that so many times? We think that our vision for something needs to play out a certain way. Sort of an all or nothing type plan. But God rarely works that way. His plans often do not unravel the way we think. They are usually better than we imagined and down a path we never would have ventured. Thank you for sharing this. It gives me hope for the future and confidence to stand on what He’s leading me to do. Have a great weekend!

    1. Alisa those twisted and turning paths can be filled with anxiety. If we could only remember what you discovered, our dreams may be fulfilled, just not in the way we thought they would. Blessings friend!

  5. “sometimes, just sometimes, the storms come to displace us.” So true, Carmen, and well said. We always need to be open to what God is prompting us to do in those storms. Happy to be your neighbor for #livefreeThursday.

  6. This post is a literal answer to prayer. God used your words in a mighty way in my heart today, friend. So very thankful for you and your willingness to be used for His Glory. xo
